West Virginia University’s Jackson’s Mill will now serve as a central connectivity hub for the state
What is the donation?
Frontier will donate high-speed fiber internet to West Virginia University’s Jackson’s Mill campus to support youth STEM education and first responder training. With this donation, the campus will serve as a central connectivity hub for the rural community of Lewis County and for thousands of people across the state of West Virginia. The donation is part of the company’s Broadband for Good social impact program.
What is Broadband for Good?
Frontier’s social impact program Broadband for Good is a commitment to advancing digital inclusion and strengthening the communities it serves. The program supports the company’s purpose of Building Gigabit America by using its fiber technology and resources to connect more people to the digital society.
Why did Frontier choose WVU Jackson’s Mill?
West Virginia University’s (WVU) Jackson’s Mill is a rural campus that sits in the middle of the state and provides STEM education opportunities for underserved youth as well as first responder training at its Fire Academy.
High-speed, reliable internet will enable WVU Jackson’s Mill to expand its educational programming and training to even more people across the state. With this donation, Frontier is providing technology that will support the community of Lewis County and the state of West Virginia for generations to come.
“We are proud to donate to WVU Jackson’s Mill as part of our Broadband for Good program, which is all about giving back to the communities that we serve,” said Erin Kurtz, Frontier’s Chief Communications Officer. “This community-loved organization provides education and programming to create a better future for West Virginians. Now, with our donation of fiber internet, the campus will also serve as a central connectivity hub for people across the state.”
Hear from WVU Jackson’s Mill:
“WVU Jackson’s Mill has been a center for improving the lives and livelihoods of West Virginians for over 100 years. This partnership with Frontier will allow us to provide unique educational programs and services at WVU Jackson’s Mill that will help bridge the digital divide in rural West Virginia, including expanding virtual learning opportunities,” said David Snively, Director, WVU Jackson’s Mill. “Improved access to high-speed internet will benefit young people who attend camp, workforce training at our Fire Academy, residents who need to complete a job application or complete a school assignment, and those hosting conferences at our facility. This technology will truly allow us to open windows of opportunity for expanded programs and events.”
Hear from Lewis County:
“I am pleased that Frontier’s fiber expansion is continuing in Lewis County and that they have made this donation of fiber service to WVU – Jackson’s Mill,” Agnes Queen, Commissioner, Lewis County Commission. “It is important that the state and providers work together to ensure our students and, our larger community members, have the connectivity they need to succeed.”
